The Leftovers 205 "No Room at the Inn" Discussion

Synopsis: Rev. Matt Jamison takes his wife outside Miracle to seek answers about her condition; Matt struggles to keep Mary safe from desperate tourists outside the town's gates.

This was a bleak but amazing episode as Reverend Matt Jamison, a man of steadfast faith, not dissimilar to John Lock from Lost and complete with references to Job's suffering in the Bible, hits obstacle after obstacle.

The episode is titled "No Room at the Inn" and his wife Mary is found to be pregnant. Did a miracle happen in Miracle or is Matt blinded by his desire to believe in miracles so much so that he subconsciously thought his wife was no longer in a catatonic state?

Matt is a noble man, a true believer, choosing to ask his sister to care for his wife while he rescues the son of his persecutor, the boy who just lost his father in a car accident, the father who stole his wrist band and beat him up to do it, and then takes the shameful place of another man in head stocks in the camp outside of Jarden where no compassion can be found.

The mind is a fragile thing.

Excellent and poignant music choices as always... "No one's laughing at God when there's a famine or fire or flood"

This is not television for the masses. This is not escapism. This is a rare beauty. Does this mean The Leftovers will suddenly depart from HBO or will we get a Season 3 despite low viewership? One can only have faith that the team at HBO forgoes quantity for quality and that binge viewing might help off-season.
